And maybe a reminder as to why we don't need to post EVERYTHING we do to Facebook the minute we do it.
Social media helped police nab a man who allegedly stole a $3,000 engagement ring for his girlfriend.
Ryan Jarvis, 25, of Burlington, pleaded not guilty Wednesday.
Police say he stole a white gold solitaire ring from the Zales store in the Burlington Town Center Mall.
He proposed and his bride-to-be-- who was present in the courtroom Wednesday-- said "yes." She posted the good news on Facebook and included a picture of the ring. Burlington police say that prompted a few of her Facebook friends to call police when they realized it matched the stolen ring they'd seen on the news.
"He was in there for approximately an hour and there was some inkling from the employees that it was kind of a legitimate interest that he had in getting this diamond ring. So there was some thought that quite frankly that it would pop up on Facebook," Burlington Deputy Police Chief Andi Higbee said.
Jarvis' girlfriend was wearing the stolen ring when police came to the house to question the couple. Police don't believe she knew her ring was stolen and don't plan to file criminal charges against her.
